What wears out on a 10-speed Jamis Renegade S3 at 250 km a week, when to change it, and how to tell without guessing.
Check the chain with the gauge once a month. Replace it the moment the 0.75% step drops in. A worn chain reshapes the cassette to match itself — every expensive part downstream is a consequence of ignoring the cheapest one.
Pale bar = still fine. Solid bar = the replacement window; swap somewhere inside it. The dashed line is one year of your riding, so anything ending left of it is a more-than-once-a-year part.
Distances assume mostly dry pavement, occasional gravel, and a 6–8 kg pack some days. Grit, rain and load all pull the numbers down — the "how to tell" column is what actually decides.

The three steps on the CR03 are one ordered scale. Width changes with speed count; pitch never does — so the tool is universal and only the threshold moves. Yours is the middle one.

The limit for 10-speed and below. Swap it now and the cassette lives another chain or two.
The cassette has been reshaped to the worn chain. Order both, or a new chain will skip on the old cogs.
Everything above is a consequence of these. Measure on the top run under light tension, in three or four places around the chain, and go by the worst reading.
Thirteen thousand kilometres. The whole argument for staying on 10-speed is in this row — the consumables are a third of what 12-speed asks for, and the chain tolerates half again as much wear.
Buy the three chains at once and rotate them every 1,000 km rather than running each to death in turn. All three wear evenly and slowly, they collectively outlast three chains used in sequence, and the cassette sees one consistent chain profile for its whole life. Tyre count drops toward three a year if you move from the knobbly Ravagers to a harder-wearing slick like the Re-Fuse.
